Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, FMAB for short, is a Japanese anime television series adapted from the manga series Fullmetal Alchemist by Hiromu Arakawa that aired in April 2009 until June 2010. The series ran for 64 episodes and is still available for viewing on streaming services, physical and digital copies. Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood is also not the only adaptation of the manga series. Prior in 2003, the anime television series Fullmetal Alchemist was released but did not follow the plot line of the manga series unlike the later Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. In this anime series, the audience follows the journey of state alchemist brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric on their quest to retrieve their original bodies back after performing the taboo ritual of human transmutation to bring back their dead mother.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (2009-2010)

My website's objective is to show that Hiromu Arakawa’s Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood uses pop culture to show Christian mythology effectively and that both religion and science are of but two sides of the same coin. Used for good as the series shows, society prospers but used for harm and it corrupts. The evidence that I will be using in my website will draw from the following themes and issues. First I will be examining the symbolism used in FMAB. I will focus specifically on the characters of Hohenheim, Father and the Homunculi and how they are specifically inspired by Christian mythology. Secondly I will be covering the corrupting issues of science and religion. I will draw from the dark examples of alchemy that state alchemists practice as well as the religious practitioners in FMAB. Thirdly, I will be examining the depiction of faith through the events of Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood and how the series handles this religious element.

I hope that the website enables readers to explore this fascinating anime universe and that, at the end of your web adventure, you agree with me. If not, then at least I hope you will enjoy the site. And maybe even decide to look into the series yourself.

Thanks! (Heads up, huge spoiler warning for the plot for this series so if you don’t want key points revealed you’ve been told!)
