CONCLUSION

The primary idea behind Hiromu Arakawa’s Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood is balance, that science and religion are simply two paths to the same ultimate knowledge of self discovery. As this web project has demonstrated, Arakawa has used pop culture to show Christian mythology effectively and that both religion and science are of but two sides of the same coin. The conclusion of the series, particularly Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, seems to suggest that neither view point is wrong, there is simply much more to learn. Arakawa took the material provided by Christian mythology; the depictions of Christ, Lucifer/ Satan, the Seven Deadly Sins, and used personification to show an audience what they could look like in a fantasy world. Arakawa also showed the very real darkness that science and religion can produce and that both mediums must be practiced in moderation else it could corrode the very principles the user upholds. Lastly, Arakawa show’s how faith in a society encapsulated by science is more of a boon than a burden. Thus in conclusion, Arakawa used these religions themes and issues to create a medium of pop culture that has been seen by millions.
